Co-creator Q&A

Q: How many people do you expect in the sessions?

A: Because of the nature of the Unconference, where we center invitations, conversations, and dialogue over “presenting,” participants are encouraged and given autonomy to move as they wish, from room to room. You could expect anywhere from 1 (you!) to 10+ people.

For some context: last year, we had 100+ RSVPs, about 70 logged in with 2-4 concurrent sessions at any time. Some sessions held steady with 4-6 participants, some with 10-15 folks. Sometimes, if no one shows up to a session, you get to decide if you want that time to work on that idea alone or leave that room and join another room that interests you.

Q: Are the conference sessions 1 hour in length or 45 minutes?

A: You decide! As the session lead or "convener" holding space, you are assigned a dedicated room for the day and are responsible for starting the session at your designated start time. You then have the agency to hold space for as long as you desire. You can even hand off the “hosting” baton or invite others to join you to co-lead the session anytime.

How long is my own session?
The sessions go as long as people are in the room. Qiqo Chat, the platform the event is hosted on, assigns a room to each session and that means, unlike with traditional events, there's no time limit on how long a room can stay active. Some hosts only want to hold space for an hour, some want to stay as long as the conversation is compelling. Some hosts leave their rooms and join other rooms, while others continue discussing their topic.

Q: Will we be able to do a run-through or tech check before our sessions?

A: Yes! We will offer drop-in times on Monday evening, August 14th, where you can do a run-through with your materials and conduct a tech check. We will also set up “practice rooms” where, starting August 15th, you can log in to the platform anytime to familiarize yourself with the space and tech. Sign up here for a drop-in slot!

Do I need to download anything so I can take part?

If you already have Zoom, no, there's nothing to download. If you don't have Zoom, you'll need to download it to use Qiqo Chat and participate in the unconference.

Do I need to prep for our chat or will it just be easy flowing?
The energy of the space is less "knowledge transfer" or "teaching" than one of conversation, questioning and ideating. You might want to have a few talking points at the ready or even a few questions to toss out and then the conversation can flow from there. This is most definitely an UnConference.

Is there a discount code for people who are interested in participating but do not have the full financial means?

Thanks for asking. COMMUNITY2023 will take 50% off.
